Church in the Forest
A proposal to extend & refurbish a suburban church in the Metropolitan Green Belt.
A proposal to extend & refurbish a suburban church in the Metropolitan Green Belt. The proposed extension replaces an existing 1950s extension, and provides new community facilities and a stronger connection between church and its surrounding forest. A new access tower balances the original tower, which today sits in the centre of the church’s elevation but once sat at a corner of the original building.
Context
The proposal also includes the renovation of the interior of the original church, primarily through the creation of a new gallery in the nave designed to evoke a cluster of trees, and a landscape strategy was also developed to connect the church up to existing walking & jogging routes, forest trails and nearby streets & community facilities.
