Delivering upon DK-CM’s Westway Community Street strategy, these refurbished public toilets below the Westway raised carriageway, immediately adjacent to Portobello Market, provide enhanced toilet facilties to the public and also amenity for market traders.
The revitalised toilets reuse as much as possible of the original structure whilst updating the layout to reflect updated safety and usage considerations. New elements are designed to be beautiful and highly durable, and everything is held together with a new, more civic front elevation below the Westway which retains, restores and celebrates the in-situ mosaic artwork by Carrie Reichart and collaborators.
The project includes elements designed with and produced by Local Works Studio o and was delivered by Olli Construction. Public realm works around the toilets are currently on site.
